An ex-learner and former head boy of Curro Durbanville has recently departed to England to further his studies in the prestigious Formula One aerodynamics programme at the University of Southampton.
Dashayin Gilbert (19) from Durbanville, who was a scholarship holder from the Ruta Sechaba Foundation (RSF) while being at school, has a thrilling vision for Cape Town – one that involves roaring engines, innovation, and speed.
Aspiring to be a motorsport aerodynamics engineer, his dream is a Formula One supercar circuit against the backdrop of the iconic Table Mountain.
Dashayin, who was among three outstanding scholarship recipients chosen by RSF, utilised AI technology to envision South Africa’s future – focusing on Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Durban.
“My motorsport career goal is to make F1 predictable. I want to design the most dominant cars in F1 history, alongside which I would like to develop my existing aerodynamic research toward reducing energy demands and carbon emissions of road cars through aerodynamic concepts,” he says.
