Women’s rugby team seeking sponsors for upcoming tour

Talented female rugby players in Kraaifontein could miss a golden opportunity to make their dreams come true in taking part in the George 10s tournament in December, this amid a shortage of funds to cover accommodation, transport and tournament fees.

The Warriors Rugby Academy is a dedicated and passionate group of individuals that is deeply committed to nurture the talents of its players.

The academy was established two years ago with the vision of empowering and promoting the participation of women in the sport. They now boast 30 players between the ages of 12 and 18.

“Our players have exhibited immense potential and skill in rugby, however, the stark reality is that many of them hail from impoverished communities where only one parent is employed and the household often plagued with substance abuse and other social ills. Participating in sport offers a reprieve and gives hope,” says Monray Malgas from the academy.

The academy is now seeking sponsorship to make this trip possible for 17 of its players.

“Despite our best efforts we seek help to make their dreams a reality as we prepare for the tournament in December. Our players are very talented and have so much potential, hence we are not able to assist them accordingly. We are busy with various fund raising projects such as food sales, but the outcome is not always successful,” he says.

“We believe rugby is a way of living. The solidarity taking place in these teams is beyond mind blowing,” he says.

“Our team is comprised of talented and dedicated female athletes who are passionate about the game and eager to make a mark in the rugby community. We believe that sport, particularly rugby, can be a powerful tool for personal development, empowerment and community building, to ensure the success of our team and the fulfilment of our mission,” says Malgas.
