A 65-year-old woman was among one of the three victims of a shooting in Bishop Lavis over the weekend.
Bishop Lavis police spokesperson, Captain Marie Louw, says at about 01:20 on Sunday (5 February) a group of friends were sitting outside a house in Swan Road and chatting as they had just come home from work. Some of them, she says, were sitting in a parked vehicle.
She says a white Toyota Quantum passed the house and according to witnesses they saw a hand holding a gun emerge from the vehicle and open fire on the group.
A 24-year-old man was hit by a bullet on the left side of his head while an 18-year-old man was hit in the eye by a bullet.
“The victims were taken to hospital.”
Louw says as residents came outside a grey Toyota Corolla passed the crowd and shots were again fired. A 65-year-old woman was shot in the back three times. “She ran inside the house and collapsed . She was also transported to hospital.”
Louw says police are now investigating three cases of attempted murder and at this stage officers do not believe the shootings were gang-related.
