Witness recounts bloody Booysen shooting

“As I was standing in the gym, I saw a gunman running out with a gun in his hand, then a few moments later Mr Booysen came out with what appeared to be a bandage on his arm.

An eyewitness told TygerBurger she was on the scene where the wounded alleged Sexy Boys gang boss, Jerome Booysen, survived yet another failed attempt on his life at the Soneike shopping centre in Kuils River yesterday (Wednesday 1 August).

The source told TygerBurger she got a first-hand view of him being led out of the Spur restaurant shortly after the shooting took place at around 15:00 with what looked like a bandage of sorts on his arm.

Booysen sustained a gunshot wound to the arm while another man was killed, police have confirmed.

The source said: “I visited a shop at the mall then went to draw money at the FNB ATM. As I was on my way back to the shop, I heard a gunshot and thought it was the MTN store being robbed again. I then ran up the escalator (which also leads to the Spur), then I went into the gym. I did not realise at the time that the shooting had taken place at the Spur.

“As I was standing in the gym, I saw a gunman running out with a gun in his hand, then a few moments later Mr Booysen came out with what appeared to be a bandage on his arm and a gun in his hand.

“He was with a woman and two small children. The children looked very stunned at what happened. As he was walking out of the restaurant and down the escalator, blood was dripping from his arm.  One could see the blood trail basically leading to his car.”

Provincial police spokesperson FC Van Wyk said: “Circumstances surrounding the incident at around 15:00 yesterday afternoon at a shopping mall in Kuils River are under investigation. According to our reports one person has been killed and another man was wounded. We’ve opened a case of murder for further investigation.”
