Miquette Temlett, ward councillor, planting one of the trees in a park in Edgemead.

As part Arbor Month this year several plants have been planted in Ward 5.

Miquette Temlett, ward councillor, says 10 Wild Olive trees in her ward – five in Goede Hoop Park, Bothasig, and five in Gerard Square Park in Edgemead – were planted.

“The parks and recreation department will water these trees twice per week, but I kindly ask that residents also help care for them whenever possible. Together, we can ensure these trees grow strong and continue to beautify our parks for many years to come,” says Temlett.

Cheryl Visser, Ward 1 councillor, says similar projects are set to take place in her ward.

According to Visser there are plans to upgrade the memorial at Frikkie Knoetze Park in Plattekloof. A lookout deck will also be installed at the bottom of the Frikkie Knoetze Arboretum. Thirty trees at the arboretum will also be clearly marked, says Visser.

The walkways at the park in Kleinbosch will also be upgraded by means of the ward allocation budget.

“We have also upgraded the walkway between Kleinbosch and Welgelegen with ward allocation budget, Visser says.
