West Beach residents are on edge after the neighbourhood saw a sudden rise in car break-ins.
Over recent weeks, police reports have documented a growing number of vehicle burglaries, leaving car owners frustrated and on high alert. Despite increased patrols, many locals are worried about the safety of their property and what this wave of crime could mean for the community.
With valuables stolen and windows shattered, residents are urged to stay vigilant and take precautions.
Belongings stolen
One of the incidents was reported last week on Tuesday 29 October during the early hours of the morning.
The resident’s vehicle was parked in a public space in the West Beach area and the vehicle was locked.
Capt Adriana Chandler, Table View police spokesperson, says a few hours later, the owner of the vehicle returned to find one of the doors unlocked.
“Upon further investigation he found that a cellphone and wallet left in the vehicle had been stolen. Furthermore, the victim received a notification that a bank card registered to the complainant had been used at a garage,” Chandler says.
Police are following up on leads to trace the suspects involved, with the aid of video footage.
