Water pipework network upgrades in Bellville area

The City of Cape Town will start upgrading its water pipework network in the Bellville area from 20:00 on Monday 10 July until 30 June 2018.

Burst water pipes in Bellville may finally be a thing of a past, but at a price.

Large parts of Bellville will experience intermittent interruptions in water supply for the next twelve months.

The City of Cape Town will start upgrading its water pipework network in the Bellville area from 20:00 today (Monday 10 July) until 30 June 2018.

We hope to carry out most of the work at night during the week to keep disruptions to a minimum.

The following areas will be affected: Welgemoed, Welgedacht, Kanonberg, Van Riebeeckshof, Oude Westhof, Protea Valley, Door de Kraal, Loevenstein, Boston, Tygervalley, Kenridge, Rosendal, Ridgeworth, Oakdale, Bloemhof, Blomtuin, Stellenberg, Eversdal, Vredekloof and Brackenfell, city spokesperson Farouk Robertson says.
The City is also currently conducting a pressure management exercise within its reticulation network in these areas.

“The main aim of this exercise is to identify and locate zone valves which control the feeds to the areas from our reservoirs. Depending on the pressure, the City may install pressure-reducing valves in certain areas to reduce pressure. Water pressure has been the main cause of pipe bursts in these areas. In addition, the reticulation system is being upgraded and maintained to reduce pipe bursts in general,” he said.

According to Robertson they hope to carry out most of the work at night during the week to keep disruptions to a minimum.

Residents are advised to store some water ahead of time in clean, sealed containers for domestic use during this period just as a precaution. They should also ensure that their taps are closed to avoid water losses or possible damage when the supply is restored.
