The u-12 team from Kuils River-based Newman’s Football Club emerged victorious at the Island Rovers AFC u-12 Tournament held over the weekend of 24-26 October.

Twenty-four teams competed in the tournament at the Bishop Lavis Sports Complex, with Newman’s squad fighting their way through to claim the championship title.
“From a tough Friday night kick-off to grinding through our group, the boys battled their way to the Gold Section final,” said club founder and director Nathan Newman.
The team secured the championship against a strong Hanover Park FC side with a 2-1 victory.
“It was a thrilling finish to a demanding 2025 season for our u-12A squad.”
Goalkeeper
The team’s goalkeeper Athanda Ncoyi won the Golden Glove honours as Goalkeeper of the Tournament.

It is a remarkable achievement for the young player from Mfuleni, who only started playing football this year and decided to be a goalkeeper. “Ten months later and he is goalkeeper of the tournament at a major u-12 competition,” Newman added.
The team is coached by Shaun Brown and Dionysios Wolfaardt.
