A 35-year old vagrant was found dead underneath the R300 bridge on Monday morning (10 January).
Police were called to the scene at about 06:40 and upon arrival the man was already dead.
“Information received suggests that the man was destitute and living in the bushes near to where he was found. No foul play is suspected and a death inquest was opened,” says police spokesperson Capt Erica Crous.
Current evidence suggests that the man died of a long-suffered illness.
The man was known by others staying in the surrounds as Nico Demas, but positive identification by a family member is needed to confirm the man’s identity.
Anyone that can assist in the investigation is requested to contact investigating officer Sgt Jean Pretorius on 021 983 1940.
