The provincial taxi strike on Monday morning (18 September) has taken a turn for the worst leaving buses torched and commuters injured.
A Golden Arrow bus was set alight in Delft earlier this morning and a MyCiti bus was also set alight on the N2 at the R300.
The City of Cape Town’s Traffic Services spokesperson, Richard Coleman, said the N2 incoming at the R300 has been closed due to a MyCiti bus which has been set alight.
“We ask motorists to take caution when approaching the area.”
The R300 has now been reopened in both directions.
Police provincial spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa, said in a statement on Sunday (17 September) that the Public Order Police (POPs), Flying Squad members, K-9 as well as other units will be deployed at identified locations and taxi hubs in an effort to ensure safety and security for commuters and motorists.
Police could not comment on commuters who have been injured during the strike.
The media has received information that Mitchell’s Plain taxi driver are planing to target all school transport drivers who do not strike this afternoon, parents are urged to make arrangements to keep your children safe.
