Police have
confirmed that the body of an unidentified man was found at Avondale Railway
Station on Thursday 19 April. 

When TygerBurger
arrived at the scene, the deceased’s body could be seen in an upright position
as if resting against a pole with its arms at its side, feet on the ground and
a rope or cable hanging down from the pole and tied to its neck.

According
to residents, police arrived on the scene between 08:30 and 09:00.

Resident
Lindsay McCrae told TygerBurger
she has surveillance footage of two men
climbing through a hole in the fence.

McCrae said
in the footage it appears that one of the men is the deceased, while the other
man accompanied the deceased.

“You can
clearly see the man going to the railway line through the fence with another
guy at about 01:45. The other guy comes back alone between at about 02:55,” she
said.

According
to Captain Kevin Williams, Parow police spokesperson, the deceased allegedly
committed suicide by strangulation.

“The
identity is still unknown, but the investigation continues,” Williams told TygerBurger
.

Police were unable to
comment on the surveillance footage.
