Two teenagers, both 19 years of age, appeared in the Cape
Town Magistrate’s Court after they allegedly tried to rob a woman of her
cellphone.
The incident occurred in brought daylight on Wednesday 16
May.
The woman was on her way home when she was attacked on the
corner of Parklands Main Road and Koeberg Road, the police say.
“A security guard noticed the commotion and ran to the
lady’s aid. With the assistance of bystanders, the security guard managed to catch
both suspects. The stolen phone was recovered. Table View police were called
and the suspects were handed over to them,” says police spokesperson, Captain
Adriana Chandler.
The courage portrayed by the security guard was commended by
police management and a certificate will be awarded to the individual, Chandler
says.
The two suspects appeared in court on Friday 18 May.
