Two cousins and their boyfriends were shot dead on New Year’s morning in Belhar.
Stacey-Lee and Kaylen Visser from Belhar were with their respective boyfriends, Wendell Tarentaal from Belhar, and Efraim Presence from Delft, when the four were shot.
“On 1 January 2017 at around 03:35, four people, Kaylen Visser (17), Stacey-Lee Visser (17), Wendell Tarentaal (24) and Efraim Presence (26) were shot and killed in Chestnut Way in Belhar by unknown suspects who are yet to be arrested,” Lieutenant Colonel André Traut, provincinal police spokesperson, confirmed to TygerBurger on Tuesday.
Social media posts on the Vahalla Park/Bishop Lavis/Belhar/Bellville Gangwatch page would have it that the incident was gang-related, with one commentator suggesting one of the two boyfriends had been a gang hitman. The same commentator stated the foursome were all shot in the head.
None of this, however, could be confirmed by police.
“The victims were inside a vehicle when they came under attack. The circumstances surrounding the murder case are under investigation and the motive is yet to be determined,” Traut said when asked about this speculation.
Traut could also not confirm if all four had died on the scene, but one commentator on the mentioned Facebook page cited that Stacey-Lee had died in Melomed Hospital in Bellvlille after the attack.
