Cape Town police have launched a manhunt for the suspects behind a deadly mass shooting in Goodwood that claimed two lives and left three others wounded.

According to reports the occupants of a silver VW Polo were travelling along Voortrekker Road on Saturday 19 July when unknown gunmen opened fire on their vehicle in broad daylight. Two men died at the scene and two others were rushed to a nearby hospital. “A sixth passenger miraculously escaped the incident without injury,” said provincial police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi.

“The motive for this attack is believed to be gang-related.”

The Anti-Gang Unit has taken over the investigation and is currently probing two counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder.

The gunmen fled the scene and remained at large. Police urged members of the public to come forward with any information that could assist in the investigation.

“We appeal to anyone with information to please contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111,” Swartbooi added, “or use the mobile application MySAPS anonymously.”
