Police are investigating a case of attempted murder after two people were wounded in a crossfire between two groups believed to be from opposing taxi associations at the Bellville taxi rank this morning.

opposing taxi associations at the Bellville taxi rank this morning.

Provincial police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel André
Traut said at around 10:45 this morning two groups of people started exchanging
shots.

“In the process, two men (28 and 33) who were bystanders
were shot and wounded,” he said.

“Police members who were deployed to the area noticed a
group of five male persons standing on Voortrekker Road. Upon approaching them,
one male produced a firearm. He was shot and wounded by police.”

He said the men attempted to flee the scene, but four of
them were apprehended and arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm.

They will appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on
Tuesday, 25 September.
