Two people
were killed and three others sustained various injuries when two vehicles
collided head-on in Plattekloof Road between Bosmansdam and Vryburger avenues
in Bothasig on Tuesday morning.
ER24
spokesperson, Werner Vermaak, says the accident happened shortly before 04:00.
“Paramedics
from ER24, Metro Rescue and Cape Town Fire Services arrived on the scene where
they found some of the vehicle occupants still trapped inside the vehicles.
“They had
to use specialised equipment to free them from the wreckages.”
Vermaak
says that unfortunately there was nothing that paramedics could do for one of
the drivers and he was declared dead on the scene.
“A female
passenger was found in the other vehicle with critical injuries. While
paramedics were busy treating her, her condition rapidly deteriorated,” he
says.
Despite the
efforts of paramedics on the scene, she later succumbed to her injuries.
“A
seriously injured occupant, as well as two other occupants with minor to
moderate injuries, were treated and stabilised on the scene before being rushed
to a nearby hospital by ER24 and Metro Emergency Services.”
The exact
circumstances surrounding the collision are not yet known. Local authorities
attended to the scene.
