Two men
were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms in Durbanville today.
This came
after the Crime Prevention Unit noticed a suspicious vehicle while doing
regular patrols on Wellington Road.
“After
following the vehicle for a while, it eventually pulled over on Brackenfell
Boulevard where it was searched. The search led to the discovery of three
unlicensed firearms and ammunition,” police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel
Andrè Traut says.
According
to a post on Durbanville At Home Facebook page, one of the firearms was a
service pistol. Traut could not confirm this.
Traut says police suspect
the men were about to carry out a robbery in
the area and will investigate.
The two
will remain in police custody.
