Tygerberg Crime Combating Unit confiscates drugs, firearm in Kraaifontein
Police officers from the Tygerberg Crime Combating Unit, deployed in Kraaifontein to address ongoing gang violence, seized drugs, a firearm and ammunition in separate incidents on Monday 5 May.
Around 11:30, while patrolling an informal settlement, officers spotted a suspicious-looking man who fled on seeing their vehicle.
“A foot chase ensued, during which the suspect was seen discarding an object among rubble,” said police spokesperson W/O Joseph Swartbooi. “Police apprehended the 29-year-old man and searched the area, recovering a parcel containing 220 sachets of methamphetamine, Mandrax tablets and cash. He was arrested on charges of drug possession.
“Later, around 14:00 in Wallacedene, officers acted on information that led them to a residence in Mtyobile Street. A search of the premises uncovered a firearm and ammunition hidden under a bed. An adult male was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.”
Both suspects will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ Court on their respective charges.
