A stolen car led to the arrest of two suspects on Monday 9 October, according to a statement by provincial police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk.
Van Wyk says vigilant police officers of the Western Cape K9 Unit who were busy with patrols in the Ruyterwacht area on Monday noticed the car. It had been circulated on the police system as stolen at Elsies River Day Hospital earlier the same day.
A female complainant had parked her grey Honda Ballade at the Elsies River Day Hospital on Monday morning around 11:00 and on her return at 13:00 it was not where she had parked it. She immediately registered a case of the theft of a motor vehicle at Elsies River police for investigation.
The officers of the K9 unit noticed a grey Honda Ballade that fitted the description of the stolen vehicle around 14:00. They followed the driver, who refused to stop, and in the process tried to force the police vehicle off the road twice.
One of the police officers fired a shot at the tyre of the Honda Ballade and the vehicle stopped. Two men, both 31 years old, were arrested for attempted murder and possession of stolen property.
They appeared in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court on said charges on Wednesday 11 October.
