A tree in Eversdal which caught alight amid lightning sent tongues wagging on social media on today (26 April).
A picture of the tree on fire was placed on various Facebook pages and WhatsApp groups.
Homeowner Debbie Batt says at the time of the incident two people were in the house when the lightning struck.
“At that point they did not know the tree was on fire until a neighbour alerted them. We are so grateful for everybody who assisted and a special thanks to Cliff Streak from Greenview Farming who jumped over the wall to get the hosepipe to help put the fire out.”
According to the City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson, Liezl Moodie, firefighters from the Durbanville Fire Station responded to the fire on the corner of Geelhout and Wonderboom streets at 11:14 and it was extinguished by 11:34.
