An informal trader spent the night in jail after he allegedly assaulted Law Enforcement officers in Bellville on Tuesday (31 January).

Law Enforcement spokesperson, Wayne Dyason, says shortly after 15:00 two Law Enforcement officers were passing through Bellville when they noticed a man selling goods illegally at the intersection of Bill Bezuidenhout Avenue and Suikerbos Street.

The officers pulled over and questioned the man. Dyason says officers were issuing the man with a fine for selling goods without a permit and preparing to confiscate his wares when he became aggressive.

“He was very aggressive, especially with the female officer and this resulted in his arrest. He was taken to the Bellville Police Station.”
