The Boston ChoirFest returns for a third edition on Sunday 10 August at 16:00, hosted at the Hugo Lambrechts Auditorium in Parow.
This year’s event promises an uplifting afternoon of music featuring four local choirs, an international guest ensemble, and a talented musical duo.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Tygerberg High School Boys’ Choir (click to listen) —nicknamed the Tygerberg Mafia—brings award-winning energy under the leadership of baritone Barend van der Westhuizen.

The choir has earned multiple medals at eisteddfods and won their category at the ATKV Applous Competition for three consecutive years.
Also performing is the Heavenly Sound Youth Choir, founded in 2016 in Philippi East and directed by Philile Mfundo Poponi.

This non-profit organisation uses music as a vehicle for change—empowering young voices to rise above the challenges of crime, gangsterism, and substance abuse.
With members from diverse backgrounds and areas they have created a platform for unity and celebration of uniqueness.
Adding a unique flair is HippoYini Acappella, made up of medical students from Stellenbosch University’s Tygerberg campus.
Despite gruelling schedules, the group—led by Charl Keet—rehearses twice weekly and has taken top honours in the university’s a cappella category two years running.
Local pride
Local pride will be on display with the Totius Primary School Senior Choir, which, under Jade Paige and Hannelie van Niekerk, reached the final round of the 2025 ATKV Applous Competition for the first time. The choir finished in second place, scoring 87,46%.

International guests the Boston City Singers, from Massachusetts, USA, bring a global perspective on their 2025 Global Voices Tour.
Since 1995, they have provided high-level creative opportunities to underserved youth aged four to 18. Now on their 2025 Global Voices Tour, they bring their message of connection and cultural exchange to Cape Town’s audiences.
Rounding out the line-up is Babette and Olga, a multi-faceted female duo that can play more than five instruments combined.
Fine Music Radio’s Otto van der Walt will serve as MC. Guests can enjoy treats from Kruis Koffie, along with a complimentary coffee.
Doors open at 15:20. The event will also be live streamed for the first time.
