Melkbosstrand police are on the hunt for thieves who burgled a liquor store in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
According to a report from Melkbosstrand police, while on patrol, officers were informed by a local security company that they received an alarm call at OK Liquors at the Koeberg Centre.
Police spokesperson Constable Debbie Alard says according to the information received, the store was burgled and a silver BMW was spotted leaving the scene. She says a co-ordinated response by various police units along with the neighbourhood watch and security companies saw all the exit routes of the coastal town closed off. The vehicle was later spotted by Avenue Response driving towards Duynefontein.
“The car sped away and police gave chase. Officers blocked the vehicle as it entered Duynefontein. A shot was fired at the car’s tyres in an attempt to apprehend the suspects. The suspects then jumped out of the moving vehicle which came to a stop after hitting a tree in Raymond Crescent. The suspects then fled on foot into the greenbelt near the residential area and then into the bushes.”
She says despite an extensive search the suspects could not be found, but police recovered a large quantity of alcohol with an estimated value of R50 000.
