A taxi driver was killed and two bystanders hurt in broad
daylight in Bellville’s CBD.
The incident happened on Thursday afternoon at approximately
14:00 in Charl Malan Street near the taxi rank.
According to Leuitenant Colonel Fienie Nimb, Bellville
Police Station’s spokesperson, an unknown person walked up to the taxi and shot
the driver at least three times in the face and neck.
“During the shooting a stray bullet hit a passenger in the
upper leg,” Nimb says.
The driver who was shot then drove forward, over the passenger
who had been hit by the stray bullet.
The taxi collided with a parked VW Polo, which was moved
forward by the impact. A woman who was standing in front of the Polo was
injured when the Polo moved, squashing her between it and the vehicle in front of
it.
“Both women were taken to hospital where they are in a
stable condition,” Nimb says.
A case of murder and attempted murder will be investigated.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the
investigating officer, Sergeant Clinton Lategan, on 082 259 3632.
