Residents of Table View took policing matters into their own
hands this past weekend when a few of them helped to arrest two suspected
robbers.

The community members, the Table View Police say, arrested the
duo on Thursday 4 January.

Captain Adriana Chandler, police spokesperson, says the
22-year-old robbery victim was busy walking across a field, talking on his
mobile phone when he came under attack by three unknown men.

“One of them flicked out a knife and threatened him with it,
instructing him to hand over his phone. The  victim complied before being
told to run.

“After running a short distance, the victim turned around and
ran back in the direction of his attackers. Near the scene he noticed that
members of the community had started chasing the suspects,” Chandler explains.

Two suspects were caught.

The stolen cell phone was also recovered.

“The suspect who had the knife, managed to evade capture,”
Chandler says.

The police was contacted and the suspects, both 23 years old,
were taken into custody.

“We applaud the residents who assisted in the apprehension of
the suspects for their bravery in aiding a fellow resident.”

The public is cautioned to take extra care when walking in
deserted areas, says Chandler.

“Talking on one’s cell phone distracts your attention from what
is happening around you. It is assumed that these suspects were waiting for
their target,” Chandler says.
