A Swiss teenager (19) has died after an accident involving an alleged drunk driver in Table View on Wednesday night.

According to a report by Table View police, the incident occurred in Arum Road shortly after 21:00.

Police spokesperson Captain Adriana Chandler says according to an eyewitness a vehicle was driving at high speed down Arum Road and drove into the group of six people, who were walking on the pavement.

“When the officers arrived at the scene there were quite a number of medical emergency vehicles at the scene, tending to six people who had sustained injuries during the accident.

“The officers determined that all of the injured were from Switzerland. One of the six friends succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel.  The person driving the vehicle was found at the scene and he was arrested.  He was immediately taken to have his blood tested for alcohol content.”

Chandler says the 28-year-old male driver from Table View now faces charges of culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.
