Several organisations received funding raised through this year’s S.W.A.T charity fundraiser.

  • The S.W.A.T Women’s Day event at Cabo Beach Club raised R150 000, benefiting six organisations and two students.
  • Around 1,500 women attended the sold-out event, enjoying performances and donating to causes supporting women and children.
  • Beneficiaries included charities like She-Chem, Heaven’s Nest, and the Saartjie Baartman Centre, each receiving R32 500.

Thanks to the attendance of around 1 500 women dressed to the theme “Mob Wife”, several organisation recieved a donation to further their work with women and girls across Cape Town.

Thousands of women clad in their fur coats, leopard prints, leather stilettos and red lipstick danced the night away at this year’s S.W.A.T (Super Woman Achieving Together) Women’s Day charity event at the iconic Cabo Beach Club near the V&A Waterfront on Friday 9 August.

For the first time ever this year’s event completely sold out just days ahead of festivities. Because of this, the organisers were able to “spread the love” by selecting more than one worthy charity to donate the much-needed funds to.

Jimmy Nevis was among the entertainers for the 1 500 women in attendance at the event on Friday 9 August.

Event organisers managed to raise R150 000 which was handed over in big cheques to six different organisations and individuals that support women and children.

S.W.A.T events have become known for creating a safe space where ladies from all walks of life, religions and cultures come together to let their hair down. All while raising money for great causes such as shelters for women and children.

Recipients

Beneficiaries were the Hanover Park-based non-profit organisation She-Chem which assists girls and women in the community, Heaven’s Nest Child and Youth Care Centre in Ottery which serves as an emergency foster home for children under the age of eight that have been abused, abandoned, neglected or are affected by HIV, Manenberg-based Saartjie Baartman Centre for Women and Children who are survivors of abuse and #AgainstPeriodPoverty from Mitchells Plain who host talks at schools across the Western Cape around menstrual health and their donation packs of sanitary pads to help overcome period poverty and keep children in school. Each organisation received R32 500.

Similarly, two learners, Sarah Sauls and Kim Knoop, each received R10 000 which will go towards their sporting trip abroad later this year.

Donation extends help

Lindsay Adams, Founder of #AgainstPeriodPoverty says women supporting one another is not just a “feel good story”.

“It is building collective successes in our communities and being role models to our young girls that are the future of the country. It is also raising our voices to create awareness around whichever causes we are passionate about,” she says.

With the donation made to the organisation, thousands of girls will benefit, she says.

“We will be able to purchase more sanitary pads, more menstrual hygiene products, reaching more schools and girls, continuing to support and re-donate to the 53 schools already on our list and we will be able to purchase our second sanitary pad vending machine.

Bang for their buck

While raising money for worthy causes, the women attending the event were treated to some exciting goodie bags, a fully-kitted glam station where they were pampered with free makeovers, and more importantly all attendees had a safe space to just let their hair down and enjoy the night.

The women were also treated to star-studded performances by the likes of Jimmy Nevis, Emo Adams, Mujahid George, Garth B, Don Vino and the dazzling Madison Scarr, just to name a few.
