Seven
suspects have been arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into a
Blackheath warehouse robbery where goods to the estimated value of R8 million
were stolen.
Two
suspects, aged 34 and 35 years respectively, were arrested on Tuesday evening
(15 August) while five suspects, from whom some of the stolen goods were
retrieved, were arrested in George this afternoon (17 August).
According
to provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Novela Potelwa, it is alleged that
between seven and eight suspects robbed a warehousing facility in Blackheath on
Saturday 12 August.
Potelwa
says the suspects tied up a security guard and gained entry into the warehouse
in a truck. Using forklifts they allegedly loaded about 200 sealed boxes
containing cellphones, laptops, television LED screens and other items into the
truck.
“SAPS
investigators followed up on information and recovered the truck, including an
array of stolen items including 165 cellphones, 78 laptops and 29 tablets,”
says Potelwa.
“Detectives
have not ruled out the possibility of this incident being an inside job.”
The
suspects will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (18 August).
