A 20-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday 13 June in
connection with a business robbery at the local Jet clothing store in the 1st
River Mall located in Plein Street, Eerste River.
According to Captain Florina Muller, Kleinvlei police
spokesperson, four men entered the store at about 13:30.
“One suspect threatened the cashier with a firearm, took her
cellphone and R600 cash from the till. The cashier called security, whereupon
the suspect grabbed her and the security [guard] and took them to the back of
the shop,” explains Muller.
Another security guard managed to arrest one suspect, and
took him to the manager’s office. It was found that the serial number of the
suspect’s firearm was filed off. “The other suspects fled the scene in a white
Avanza,” says Muller.
Store personnel received trauma debriefing after the
incident from members of the victim support centre at Kleinvlei Police Station.
Muller confirms a case of business robbery is being
investigated.
