Sun International continues to uplift education across South Africa by providing essential schooling items to learners in need.

The hospitality group’s socio-economic development (SED) donations have reached nearly R3,5 million, reinforcing its commitment to improving education through infrastructure enhancements and critical supplies. At the start of 2025, Sun International made significant contributions to two no-fee primary schools in Cape Town.

Norwood Central and JS Klopper, both located in Elsies River, received stationery valued at R366 000 from GrandWest. Almost 800 learners from Grade R to Grade 3 benefited from this initiative.

“In addition, we also noted future improvements which we can assist with, such as kitchen and classroom refurbishments,” said Chrissy Dyers, SED officer at GrandWest.

Furthering its efforts, The Table Bay Hotel in Cape Town extended support to underprivileged learners before temporarily closing for renovations on 15 February.

Hotel staff identified two schools in need within their communities: Cypress Primary in Bridgetown and Inkanini Primary in Khayelitsha.

“As someone who grew up in rural areas, I believe there is no greater experience than wearing a brand-new pair of shoes,” said Asanda Maku, a waitress at The Table Bay Hotel.

“Many underprivileged children at Inkanini wear broken school shoes or other shoes, and for some, this was their very first pair of new shoes, restoring their hope, confidence, and dignity.

“A total of 143 pairs of school shoes were donated to learners.”
