A 23-year-old Stupa Boys gang member from Bishop Lavis was allegedly shot and killed by rival gang members this morning, Monday 6 February.
Bishop Lavis police spokesperson Captain Marie Louw, says the incident occurred at about 11:00 in Longenberry Road.
According to Louw the victim was walking from a shop in Longenberry Road when he was approached by three members of the Junky Funky Kids gang. She says the victim and the suspects stopped and spoke for a short while when one of the suspects pulled out a gun and shot at the victim.
“The victim tried to run away, but the one suspect continued to shoot at him as he ran into a nearby house where he later died as a result of his wounds. He sustained three gunshot wounds and was declared dead on the scene,” she says.
Louw says police then followed up on a tip-off from the community and arrested two of the three suspects who were also found in possession of a firearm.
“The suspects are in their early 20s and were both arrested and a case of murder opened. The incident is being investigated and anyone with information on the third suspect is urged to contact the police,” she says.
