The owner of a store in Koeberg Road was stabbed multiple times during the robbery.

Two Brooklyn stores were hit by robbers within 15 minutes on Sunday afternoon. In the first case, the shop owner was stabbed multiple times.

According to Maitland police, the first incident took place at about 16:15 when a store in Koeberg Road was stormed by three men carrying firearms and a knife. Police spokesperson Constable Lorencial Johnson says the gunmen pointed their firearms at a staff member behind the counter and proceeded to rob the store.

“The suspects took two boxes of cigarettes, chocolates and cash from the register. The shop owner sustained multiple stab wounds during the robbery and received medical attention. The suspect fled on foot and is still at large.”

Johnson says the store owner is currently recovering in hospital.

The second incident occurred just 15 minutes later when four men held up a garage in Koeberg Road.

Johnson says only one of the four men was carrying a firearm and the suspects grabbed a bag containing coins to the value of R100 and fled the scene.

“It is unknown whether they used a vehicle or not.”

Johnson says at this stage the two incidents do not appear to be linked but investigations are ongoing.
