The police were on the scene in Monte Vista where spent cartridges were found.

The Monte Vista Neighbourhood Watch last week reported that spent cartridges were found at a scene on the corners of Monte Vista Boulevard and De La Fontaine Avenue following an “incident” on Thursday 18 September.

A photograph featuring police and private security company vehicles and red and white tape to cordon off the scene was shared on the watch’s social media pages. The watch stated that no injuries were reported, and asked for any witnesses to come forward and or for anyone with CCTV cameras, which can assist in the matter, to reach out to them. One resident who commented on the social media post, says she heard three gunshots go off near Tulbagh Street around 21:05.

Sgt. Wesley Twigg, provincial police spokesperson, confirmed that the Goodwood police had registered a discharging of a firearm in a municipal area for further investigation. “The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and arrests are yet to be made. We can confirm that no injuries were reported,” Twigg says.

Deon Oosthuizen, vice-chair of the neighbourhood watch, however shed some more light on the matter.

“We got information from the community about something that sounded like gunshots, three being fired near Imoff Street.

“One of the District Watch patrollers went to investigate and found spent cartridges on the boulevard at the intersection of De La Fontaine Avenue and Monte Vista Boulevard. He says it is unclear what the motive behind the shooting was, as a witness reportedly says it looked like someone in a vehicle was shooting at another vehicle.

“There were no vehicles on scene and I hope no one was hurt during the incident. If anyone has more information it would be great if they can contact the Goodwood police,” Oosthuizen says.
