For the third consecutive year SPARK Blue Downs High scholar Gordon Daniels was chosen to represent the Stellenbosch region at the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists International Science Fair (ISF). This year’s event took place at the Paul Roos Gymnasium in Stellenbosch.

His innovative project “Crystallisation in red grapes” caught the attention of the judges, earning him third place and a bronze medal.

Persistance

Siyabonga Manana, principal at SPARK Blue Downs High, said Gordon’s work demonstrated not only scientific thinking and experimentation, but also Persistence, Responsibility, and Achievement; values they uphold at SPARK Schools.

Gordon’s achievements have distinguished him as one of South Africa’s rising scientific stars at this annual event that brings some of the brightest minds from around the world together.

“Participating in platforms such as the Eskom Science Expo provides our scholars with opportunities to apply classroom learning to real-world challenges, engage with the wider scientific community and inspire others with their creativity and determination,” said Manana.

Congratulations

The Eskom Expo for Young Scientists is a platform where scholars have an opportunity to exhibit their projects based on their scientific investigations. At this year’s annual International Science Fair (ISF), scholars from 35 Expo Regions in South Africa were selected to compete against the best young scientists from around the country and the world.

“A big congratulations to Gordon for representing SPARK Blue Downs High with distinction,” Manana said. “We look forward to seeing our scholars continue to lead with innovation and passion for learning.”
