Six Delft Community Policing Forum (CPF) members were arrested Wednesday morning for fraud and corruption.

Western Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Leon Fortuin says that six members were detained at the station after Foreign National Shop owners reported cases of fraud and corruption.

“It is alleged that these members solicited money from these shop owners in order to be registered to trade in the area.”

He says two cases of fraud are under investigation and that three females aged between 27 and 58 years old, as well as three males aged between 31 and 42 will appear in the Bellville Magistrates Court on Friday 28 July.

Any other shop owner who experienced conduct of this nature, to come forward and report the matter at the station.

It is alleged that on Monday 24 July the CPF members went to a foreign owned shop and requested the owner to pay R2000.

When the owner refused he was told that he should close his shop and come to the CPF office at Delft Police station.

The man then went to the police to enquire about this and when he passed the CPF office he saw the same people inside the office and informed the police.

The Station Commander of the Delft Police Station, Brigadier Phindiwe Ntungele expressed her concern over the allegations against these members and indicated that no form of corruption or fraud will be tolerated by any member affiliated to the Station.

She requests any other shop owner who experienced conduct of this nature, to come forward and report the matter at the station.
