At least one person was injured in a shooting and knifing
incident outside the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Monday morning (28
August).
Warrant Officer Henrietta van Niekerk, spokesperson of the
Bellville Police Station, confirmed the incident and said it was gang related.
She said different gang members were due to appear in court.
One of these accused was stabbed with a knife when he exited
the court building.
Chaos ensued and shots were fired.
Suspects then sped off in the direction of Parow.
The gangs involved in the incident include the Sexy Boys,
Gopi Gang and Terrible Josters.
Van Niekerk could not confirm how many shots were fired, but
some bystanders claimed they heard 13 shots.
At least eight shell cases were picked up on the scene.
Police were still on the scene by 11:30.
No injuries from the shootings were reported by 11:30 and no
arrests have been made yet.
