Seven men were arrested on Friday 29 December at
03:15 after they were caught red-handed for burglary at Mfuleni High
School.
The men, aged between 15
and 19 years from the Blue Downs area, have
been remanded in custody for a formal bail application on Friday 19 January.
“Two of them are at one of the correctional
facilities and the five juveniles are at juvenile detention
facilities,” said Captain Nomathemba Muavha,
spokesperson for
Mfuleni Police Station.
“Sixteen computers were
stolen at the high school on 25 December in Mfuleni and on 29 December another
break-in occurred at the same high school.
Nothing was stolen on 29 December as they were apprehended,” she said.
Captain Frederick Van Wyk, a
provincial police spokesperson, said the suspects face charges of
business burglary and possession of burglary implements.
“Police members responded immediately after they were
alerted of the burglary on 29 December, and caught the suspects breaking into
the school’s computer room.
“The same school was burgled on Christmas and the suspects
fled with the 16 computers. The circumstances surrounding the case are still
under investigation and no one has been arrested yet. We appeal to the
community to refrain from buying stolen goods, as this is a criminal offence,”
Van Wyk said.
Anyone with information about the stolen computers
are requested to contact Detective Sergeant
Giviano Brits on 021 909 9638 or 021 909 9618 at Mfuleni Police.
