Members of the Belhar Seniors Wellness Group demonstrated last week that age is no barrier to staying active, healthy, and enjoying life, as they hosted their Annual Sports Day at Pinelands High School.

The day’s sporting activities were smoothly run by their head coach, Jade Hearne, with help from Keenan Manual. Participants were divided into four house teams namely Green, Red, Yellow, and Blue.

According to Daphne Kayster, the excitement and energy at the sports day easily rivaled that of a lively school event. “The sports day kicked off with all four houses showing off their moves in a lively march pass and dance routine. The cheers from the crowd were loud and full of excitement.

“It was clear everyone came ready to support their teams. There were plenty of exciting events, including tug of war, a tennis ball relay race and a classic egg-and-spoon race. Other events consisted of adaptive netball, adaptive hockey as well as a fun-filled sporting quiz. Even though the participants were no longer teenagers, the seniors were full of spirit and stayed competitive throughout the day,” says Kayster.

In the end, team Red came out on top as the overall winners. “Green won the March Pass Cup, while Blue took home the Spirit Cup. The other teams are already looking forward to next year, hoping to take the top spot from the Red team,” says Kayster.

Felicity Gouws, chair of the Belhar Senior Wellness Group, shared her appreciation. “A heartfelt thank you to everyone for your participation and team spirit. We are so proud of all our members and the amazing effort each house put in,” says Gouws.
