The 35-year old off-duty constable was shot and killed as he left his home in Ngculu Street, Wallacedene, at about 05:20 this morning to report for duty at the Sea Border Unit at Table Bay Harbour.

“He was dressed in civilian clothes over his uniform. He succumbed on the scene while the suspect or suspects fled with his official firearm,” says provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut.

“The Western Cape police are saddened by the loss of another colleague, and we vow to fight back at police killings with all our resources. Our deepest condolences are expressed to the relatives and friends of the fallen member,” he added.

The investigation into the murder is being conducted by the Hawks and as yet, no one has been arrested. The name of the policeman has not been released.

In a another incident during October, Constable Masibonge Mqwada (33) was shot and killed in a hijacking attempt.
