When 11-year-old Lesedi Mokgalaka last Friday morning invited his father Mponeng, to his hockey match at half past two that afternoon, the dedicated father of three had no idea whether he would be able to attend the match.

He managed, however, and says he had his boy in his arms in the last three minutes before the match started, not knowing that it would be for the very last time.

The versatile young sportsman, who represented Brackenfell Primary’s u-11A teams in both rugby and hockey, collapsed moments after the match started and passed away soon thereafter to plunge his beloved Brackies into rawness and disbelief.

Teammates, classmates, educators and coaches paid tribute to beloved and popular Lesedi during the past week by way of several memorial gestures, while the school shared their sincere condolences with his parents. They expressed their appreciation for the support they received from the school and the Brackenfell community.

Lesedi’s memorial service was held at the Brackenfell Primary school hall at the school on Friday. He leaves behind his parents, father, Mponeng, mother, Belisa, and four-year-old twin brothers, Letlotlo and Tiotiso.
