Saxdowns Road finally open to traffic

Construction work on Saxdowns Road has finally reached the end of the road.

Construction work on Saxdowns Road has finally reached the end of the road.

This comes after news of the road and bridge running across the Bottelary River that are now open to motorists, was announced by the City of Cape Town today (15 Dedember) – news that was welcomed with much praise.

The road – which links Langverwacht Road in Kuils River with Bottelary Road in Brackenfell – and its opening is an announcement residents from these areas have long been awaiting.

Until recently two arteries were the only major exits out of the growing residential area: Van Riebeeck and Amandel roads.

The opening of Saxdowns Road will bring with it a welcome sigh of relief from motorists.

Transport for Cape Town, the City of Cape Town’s transport authority, today said it is pleased to announce the road open to traffic.

“The bridge, over the Bottelary River and the recently constructed section of Saxdowns Road between the Haasendal development and the intersection with Halleria Street, was opened to traffic at around 10:00 on Thursday,” said Brett Herron, Mayco member for Transport for Cape Town.

This 1.8km section of Saxdowns Road includes the bridge, spanning approximately 25 metres.
