Armed robbers who tried to rob a Sassa paypoint in Bonteheuwel on Thursday (2 March) were stopped in their tracks by Metro Police.
Bishop Lavis police spokesperson, Captain Marie Louw, says at about 07:20 Fidelity guards arrived at the Bonteheuwel Civic Centre to load cash for the paypoint.
She says four gunmen approached the guards and held them up at gunpoint.
“They demanded the keys to the cash boxes and locked one of the guards in the van. Metro Police arrived on the scene and the men fled the scene,” Louw says.
She says no shots were fired and no cash was taken. Louw also says they believe the arrival of Metro Police disturbed the robbers.
