South African motorsport fans are in for a treat as Pietermaritzburg’s Cameron Durow has been announced as an SX1 wildcard entry for the inaugural South African Grand Prix of the FIM World Supercross Championship, taking place at Cape Town DHL Stadium on Saturday 13 December.

The announcement marks a historic moment for local motorsport, with Durow becoming the first South African rider to compete in the premier class when World Supercross makes its debut on home soil.

National titles

The 24-year-old from KwaZulu-Natal brings serious credentials to the starting line.

A nine-time South African National Motocross Champion, Durow has dominated every major category from 50cc through to MX1, capping off his local success by claiming the 2025 MX1 National Championship.

Since 2023, Durow has been testing himself against the world’s best, competing full-time in the prestigious AMA Pro Motocross Championship in the United States. His American campaign has yielded multiple top-30 overall finishes, proving he can mix it with international elite.

The Pietermaritzburg rider has also been a stalwart for Team South Africa at the Motocross of Nations, representing his country with distinction on four occasions across the USA, France, the UK, and again in 2025.

Home ground

Durow’s wildcard appearance at the South African GP is expected to be one of the standout storylines of the event, giving fans a rare opportunity to see a South African line up in the SX1 class on home ground.

“Racing in the World Supercross Championship on home soil is something truly special,” Durow said.

“South African fans have supported me throughout my journey, and to line up in front of them at the South African GP is an incredible honour. I can’t wait to give it everything I’ve got.”

Milestone moment

Local promoter Tony Feldman, Director at Showtime Management, believes Durow’s inclusion represents a watershed moment for South African motorsport.

“South African motorsport has been waiting for this moment,” Feldman said. “Having Cameron Durow compete in the SX1 class at our home GP is not only a testament to his talent and dedication, but a huge moment for the sport in this country.

“Fans are going to witness something special, and we couldn’t be prouder to have a South African rider representing us on the biggest stage.”

The South African round of the World Supercross Championship promises world-class racing, massive crowd energy, and the added excitement of a hometown hero taking on the world’s best at DHL Stadium.
