The South African ChinWoo Kungfu Youth Team returned to Cape Town this week after competing in the United World Martial Arts Federation (UWMAF) Championships held in Johannesburg on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 July.

Led by Shifu Muhammad Junaid Chafeker, popularly known as M.J. Li, 10 young athletes from the Western Cape proudly represented the nation, displaying skill, discipline and determination. The team walked away with 22 medals. “We left on Thursday and flew back this morning,” said Chafeker.

The team extended a special word of thanks to Shihan Imtiyaz Abdulla, President and Secretary of the UWMAF, for the invitation to participate in this prestigious national event.

“The opportunity to compete on such a platform has been an incredible experience for our youth,” Chafeker said.

Among the standout performers were Luqmaan Slarmie, Saneze Mpungutyana, and Imange Zuziwe, who earned special recognition for their performance and sportsmanship over the weekend.

Looking ahead, the team is now setting their sights on international opportunities, continuing their training for two major upcoming events: the Hong Kong Championship in March 2026 and the Africa Youth Kungfu Championship in April 2026.

“Well done to Team SA ChinWoo Kungfu,” said Chafeker.

“This is just the beginning. Our youth are inspired, focused, and ready to represent South Africa with pride on the global stage.”
