  • The Ruyterwacht Neighbourhood Watch has launched a weekly noodle handout programme to support residents in need.
  • This initiative provides warm meals to those who might otherwise go hungry.
  • The programme’s success is bolstered by the partnership with Invisible Hands, a key supporter.

In a heartwarming effort to support the Ruyterwacht community, the Ruyterwacht Neighbourhood Watch has introduced a weekly noodle handout programme that has quickly become a cornerstone of their outreach activities.

According to Janine Thomas, the organisation’s secretary, the initiative aims to provide a simple but vital service: ensuring that every member of the community has access to a warm meal. “This initiative began when we observed a significant need for food assistance during our regular patrols,” said Thomas.

“We recognised that many members of our community could benefit from even a simple, warm meal. With this in mind, we committed to distributing noodles to our neighbours at least three times a month, with the goal of doing so every week whenever possible,” says Thomas.

The programme’s distribution process is both efficient and compassionate, prioritising those who are most in need. Thomas explained that the team focuses on delivering noodles directly to the homes of individuals who are unable to come to them, ensuring that these residents receive their meals without any additional burden. For those able to collect meals, the team sets up in a central location within the neighbourhood, handing out any remaining noodles to passersby and others in need.

Key to the success of this initiative is the partnership with Invisible Hands, a generous organisation that makes and donates the noodles distributed by the Ruyterwacht Neighbourhood Watch. “Their support allows us to consistently provide for our community and extend our reach to more people in need,” Thomas emphasised.

The impact of the programme has been significant, offering much-needed relief to residents who might otherwise go hungry. The neighbourhood watch is committed to continuing and expanding this programme, and they are calling on other organisations to join them in their mission. “We warmly encourage any organisations that are able to assist us in providing food aid or basic necessities to our community to reach out – your support would be immensely appreciated and make a significant difference in the lives of those we serve,” Thomas added.
