The Gold President’s Award was recently awarded to 1st Durbanville Rover, Daniel Wilbraham (18).

The award consists of three levels – bronze, silver and gold, and each of these levels has four to five requirements. Several activities which form part of the scout advancement programme can be used towards the requirements for the Gold President’s Award.

Springbok award

Daniel holds the Springbok award in scouting and this advancement level allowed him to achieve several of the Gold President’s Award requirements. The requirements include a service project, a skill, a physical recreation activity, an adventurous journey and a residential project.

For the service component, Daniel planned and executed an outreach programme of which Kids Republic Playschool in Durbanville and the adjacent farm workers were the recipients.

In addition, he served his scout troop by being a patrol leader and a troop leader at 1st Durbanville and also by staffing at several Western Cape regional scout badge courses. For his adventurous journey he participated in the senior scout adventure which took place in the Cederberg mountains from 12 to 23 December last year.

The skill component of the award involved Daniel’s successful completion of several Forex and Crypto trading courses.

Daniel’s recreational activity component was rock climbing.
He is an accomplished climber and he chose to dramatically improve certain areas of his prowess in this sport for the purposes of the Gold President’s Award.
