A new chapter has opened for the Rotary Club of Blouberg and the Rotaract Club of Blouberg when Ifechukwude Rex Omameh and Lulu Munkondia were inducted as presidents of their respective clubs.
The joint induction ceremony was held at Parklands College and attended by residents, fellow Rotarians, Rotaractors and Interact club members.
The ceremony not only celebrated the individual achievements of Omameh and Munkondia but also highlighted the strength of collaboration between Rotary and Rotaract.
Both organisations share a common commitment to service, leadership development and fostering positive change within their communities.
History made
The induction of Omameh as the 37th president of the Rotary Club of For the Blouberg club this is a historic moment. Taking on the leadership role at a young age, Omameh is the youngest president in the Rotary Club’s extensive history. Besides his age, his presidency also marks a significant milestone as he is the first president of colour in the club’s legacy.
“This achievement reinforces Rotary’s unwavering dedication to fostering diversity and inclusion, setting a compelling example for others to emulate,” Omameh says.
In Omameh’s inaugural address as president of the Rotary Club of Blouberg, he expressed gratitude and humility for the role he undertakes. Emphasising the importance of diversity beyond race, he outlined a vision of youth engagement, innovative fundraising, diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, and the significance of small but influential community projects.
He highlighted the club’s commitment to The Rotary Foundation, particularly its goal to eradicate polio. Drawing inspiration from his cultural heritage, he called for openness to change and innovation, echoing the sentiment of “a breath of fresh air”.
He concluded by rallying the club to unite around these principles, emphasising the power of Rotary to make a positive difference, one project, one person, and one community at a time.
Positive change
Munkondia’s induction as the 10th president of the Rotaract Club of Blouberg reflects the vibrancy and dynamism of the youth within the organisation, the club says.
Munkondia brings a wealth of enthusiasm and fresh ideas, driving the Rotaract Club forward as a force for positive change and community engagement.
“The event not only celebrated the newly-inducted leaders but also served as a platform to recognise club and community members. It was also an opportunity to induct new members,” Munkondia says.
Omameh and Munkondia invited the public to join the Rotary and Rotaract clubs. They emphasised that these organisations welcome people from all walks of life, regardless of age, background or profession.
“This inclusivity aligns with Rotary’s core values of service, integrity, and diversity,” she says.
As Omameh and Munkondia embark on their respective leadership journeys, their commitment to service and community development shines as a beacon of hope and inspiration for Blouberg and beyond.
“To those looking to make a difference in their communities, the Rotary Club of Blouberg and the Rotaract Club of Blouberg stand ready to welcome you into their ranks,” Munkondia says.
This is a way of getting to know others.
“By joining these organisations, you become part of a global network of individuals dedicated to creating lasting change and leaving a positive legacy for generations to come,” Omameh added.
