Two unknown, armed suspects entered an MTN mobile phone shop in Parow Centre on Tuesday 20 June at 15:15, but before they could make off with all the loot, a neighbouring shop owner fired shots at them. This was confirmed by Parow police spokesperson, Captain Kevin Williams.
Once inside the shop, the two demanded phones and placed these into two bags. They only managed to flee with one bag, as the fellow store owner opened fire and scared them off, Williams said.
Contrary to media reports on the incident, no one was injured as a result of the gunshots fired.
One person suffered minor injuries during the robbery as a result of being hit on his upper arm by one of the robbers with his firearm.
The value of the stolen cellphones was not disclosed, Williams said.
No suspects have been arrested and the investigation continues, he said.
