Motorists and residents in Kuils River, Kleinvlei and Eerste River should prepare for significant traffic disruptions as the City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate launches extensive road-resurfacing projects across the area.
The roadworks, which began on 16 October, are expected to run until 18 December, weather and progress permitting.
Affected roads
Kuils River:
Fabriek Road (in front of the driving licence-testing centre in Kuils River Industria); Assegaaibos Street and Waboom Street in Rouxville; and Mission Road and Kappertjie Street in Sarepta.
Kleinvlei:
Raymond Ackerman Avenue, Albert Philander Way, Gousblom Avenue, Vygie Avenue, Watsonia Street, Ghaap Street, Namakwa Street and Daisy Street.
Eerste River:
Shakespeare Road, Avon Road, August Street, Ceres Street, Tafelberg Road, Melton Road, Pine Crescent and Andromeda Street.
Construction teams will work between 07:00 and 17:00, Monday to Friday, laying new asphalt across the full width of affected roads.
The project also includes replacing damaged kerbs and reinstating road markings.
“These projects improve road safety conditions and our riding quality,” said the City’s Mayco member for Urban Mobility, Rob Quintas, “which helps us to keep Cape Town moving.”
Traffic impact
Drivers should expect substantial delays as traffic in both directions will be affected, with only one lane available in each direction during working hours.
Motorists are strongly advised to allow extra travel time and seek alternative routes where possible.
