The hole is filled with loose stones and has been this way since June this year.

Residents of Goodwood have expressed frustration over the prolonged process of filling a pothole in Murray Street. Last week, TygerBurger highlighted the concerns of an aggrieved resident, prompting the City of Cape Town to address the situation.

“The City is aware of the situation in Murray Street, Goodwood, and apologises for the delays in addressing this reinstatement,” said the City’s Zahid Badroodien, Mayco member for water and sanitation. “We understand the inconvenience and safety concerns caused by this issue.”

The City has launched several interventions to tackle backlogs and enhance service delivery. Among these changes:

External service providers: Reinstatement work packages are being awarded to external providers every four to five weeks, with physical work scheduled to commence in mid-November.

Increased budget: The budget for reinstatements in the 2024-’25 financial year has been boosted to R55 million, up from R33 million in the previous year.

“These efforts aim to ensure better resourcing and significantly improve turnaround times,” added Badroodien.
